Capello Impressed By Downing

Stewart Downing has been given an international boost after some good comments from the England manager.

Capello, who was talking to the BBC's Gary Lineker in an interview spoke of how impressive Downing had been in recent matches and that the winger was a major plus point for him since he took charge of the England squad.

Fabio was asked which players had stood out for him and he replied "Because he plays with big confidence, Downing. I know, really, the movement, he plays like the team, good quality and with a lot of confidence".

These comments will give Downing a massive boost ahead of the World Cup qualifiers that are coming up soon.

Stewart has been criticised when playing for England but hopefully that will change now after fans hear what the England manager has said about the left-winger.

It is easy for neutrals to say that Downing played well against Trinidad & Tobago because he was playing against poor opposition but if that was the case then why did none of the other players play well against so called poor opposition? Gareth Barry being the only exception.

I'm hoping that Capello will now allow Downing to cement that left-side of midfield with his quality and grow into a regular for the national side.

It is a new era now in English football and Fabio knows that, he will select players who deserve to play and not field players that think they they are bigger than the team. Playing household names out of position is a thing of the past as well we hope.
