Boro are making a habit of conceding goals late on which is costing the team valuable points.
The points lost make it more and more difficult to climb up the league.
Although a point yesterday did take us up the league slightly, we could be overtaken again if results go against us today.
The majority of the first half was a forgetful passage of play until Alves scored from the edge of the box following good link-up play with Stewart Downing.
You heard it right Spurs fans - Downing produced his third assist of the season in a Boro shirt.
His celebration was evidence that he wants to stay put and help his team-mates climb up the league.
The second half saw Middlesbrough defend very well late on, but still managed to concede. A last ditch tackle from Tony McMahon, after Jones had levelled the scores, kept Boro in the game and a goal line clearance from Adam Johnson made sure the match was all square at the final whistle.
Some good performances from Turnbull, again, and Downing made sure we got a point out of a very lacklustre performance at home.
The players will need to show more passion and energy against West Brom next week if we are to get any points from that game.
A point against Sunderland is not the end of the world, but the players need to up their game if they are to claim any more vital points.
