Wigan Athletic come to the Riverside on Saturday with former Boro boy Lee Cattermole looking to prove a point.
Cattermole was sold in the summer to Wigan after being told that first team football was not guaranteed if he stayed at Middlesbrough.
Seven months on and Lee Cattermole is proving that Gareth Southgate made a big mistake letting the 20-year-old go.
Boro sold Boateng and Cattermole in the summer and only replaced one of those players with Didier Digard, a mistake that might backfire on Southgate at the end of the season.
A home game against Blackburn a few weeks ago was a clear example of Southgate's poor decision to not bring in experienced players to replace sold players. The Blackburn midfield dominated the two Boro youngsters in the centre and although it ended 0-0 it was two points dropped, which might have a massive impact on the final league standings at the end of the season.
Lee Cattermole will come to the Riverside on Saturday full of confidence after playing in virtually all of Wigan's games this season. Many Wigan fans have said Lee is their player of the season so far.
It will be interesting to see the battle on Saturday. Digard will have a fight on his hands, but I believe the Frenchman can produce the goods to keep the fiery little Wigan player quiet.
It will be interesting to see if Cattermole can keep his composure on Saturday because it will be an emotional afternoon for the lad in front of his fans, former fans, friends and family.
