Boro Boss Getting Sentimental In His Last Days

Southgate is becoming more and more desperate to clutch onto the top flight in English football. It seems he is getting sentimental in, what could be, his last days at the Riverside.

Rather than concentrate on keeping the Boro team in the Premier League he is now worrying about the man who owns the club.

The curtains are nearly closed on Southgate's managerial career at Middlesbrough. We are only one game away from finding out whether we will have a chance of staying in the Premier League this season.

Southgate's latest quote about his boss is evidence that the Boro manager is finally slipping back into reality after being away with the fairies for most of the season.

'It is great to have the support of the chairman, of course, but I want to achieve for the football club and also to repay that faith.'

Repaying the faith

So how is Southgate going to repay that faith in 270 minutes of football? Or has Southgate recently purchased a book of quotes written by various Premier League managers down the years that have suffered relegation from the top flight? Chapter 1 - covering all angles if relegation looms.

Three wins would be a perfect way to repay the chairman. Maybe GS has something up his sleeve for the remaining games of the season that nobody knows anything about - not even the players.

Southgate should be talking about how we are going to beat Newcastle next Monday rather than getting all sentimental about the chairman's support. We all know how supportive Steve Gibson is, that's why he is liked by the footballing world.

If he continues with the sentimental clobber this week, expect to hear Southgate rant on about 'doing it for the fans' at some point this week. It's in chapter 4 of the relegation quotes!

Keep the faith!

Can we count on Southgate for a ball-busting team talk before the Newcastle game? We are doomed!

If we lose on Monday I can't see him being in charge next season.

Regardless of the outcome of our season GS should do the decent thing and just walk away at least then he might retain some respect from the fans, it's hard to knock a nice guy and to be fair to him he's been let down by some of the players but that doesn't excuse his lack of tactics and poor team selection.

many moons ago i raised the point about gibson needing to choose wether he wants to retain his image as the nice chairman or if he cared about keeping the boro up and getting rid of southgate, now with rumours flying around about gibbo wanting out who knows about the future of Boro
