Former star expects Boro to lead from the front
Former Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing is convinced that Gordon Strachan is the man to lead the club back into the Premier League.
The 25-year-old England international joined Aston Villa twelve months ago after Boro were relegated to the Championship.
But he fully expects his hometown club to be firmly amongst the pacesetters when the new season gets underway in just over seven weeks time.
"I think what`s important is that Gordon will be in charge for the whole of next season and that makes a big difference," Downing told the Evening Gazette.
"It would have been great if the club had achieved promotion last season but things just didn`t work out.
"It looks like some good players will be coming to the club over the summer, though, and the team next season will be the one the manager really wants."
