Mowbray demands Royal performance

The key games keep coming along for Middlesbrough with improving Reading providing the opposition at the Riverside in a real six-pointer this weekend.

Boro were hoping that midfielder Barry Robson recovers from a thigh strain in time to feature against their fourth-placed visitors. The Scot only returned to action in midweek after suffering severe bruising to his hand.

Fellow schemer Faris Haroun will similarly need a check on a sore hamstring but at least Nicky Bailey is back in contention having overcome injury. Meanwhile, Kevin Thomson serves the second of a two-game ban.

"Reading are a team who you know will give everything for their manager for the full 90 minutes,' manager Tony Mowbray told Boro's official website. "They've got quality in the wide areas and they've added Jason Roberts, who'll be a big physical threat.

"But if we can get three points we'll be back on track for where we want to be, in the mix with a lot of other clubs but with a platform to try to finish the season strongly," he reasoned. "If we can beat Reading it will be three wins on the bounce. We want to stay in and around the top six and the only way to do that is to keep winning football matches."

Royals manager Brian McDermott signed a new deal this week keeping him at the club until at least 2015 - thus ending speculation of a possible switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He has skipper Jobi McAnuff back from hernia surgery while defenders Shaun Cummings and Andy Griffin also return to their squad after recovering from knocks.
