Boro target Argentine

Middlesbrough are keen to sign Argentinian midfielder Emmanuel Ledesma and have already held preliminary talks.

The 23-year-old is a free agent after leaving Walsall at the end of last season. Boro had already had him watched on a number of occasions over the past few months. Now manager Tony Mowbray is ready to make him an offer in a bid to add increased creativity into his side.

Ledesma originally progressed through the youth set-up at Italian club Genoa before moving on a season-long loan to Queens Park Rangers four years ago. After seventeen appearances he cut short his stay to link up with another Italian outfit, Novara, and later signed for fellow second division side Crotone.

He eventually joined Walsall midway through the 2010-11 campaign and returned to them again following a spell playing in his homeland with Defensa y Justicia.

Saddlers manager Dean Smith had wanted to retain his services but he is now free to speak to interested clubs and move on.
