Boro miss out on target

Middlesbrough have missed out in their attempts to sign Hull City midfielder Robert Koren.

Manager Tony Mowbray had hoped to reunite with a player he had during his time at West Bromwich Albion after the Slovakian's initial talks with his club stalled.

However, even though manager Nick Barmby has since departed the KC Stadium, the Tigers always remained keen on extending his contract.

Meanwhile, Leicester City, now under the leadership of former Hull boss and Boro defender Nigel Pearson, had also been interested but similarly made no real headway.

Boro have so far brought in Grant Leadbitter from Ipswich Town since the end of last season and are still actively pursuing, amongst others, Walsall's Emmanuel Ledesma and Bristol Rovers' Mustapha Carayol.
