Defender on the mend
Skipper Matthew Bates is well on course to making a full recovery from his latest cruciate knee ligament injury.
The 25-year-old underwent surgery at the beginning of April and is currently into his tenth week of recuperation and making decent progress.
"I think Matthew is very confident that it should be a successful rehabilitation," manager Tony Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. "Having been through the process before, he knows what to expect and can prepare himself. He's confident that he can get himself back ready to play relatively quickly."
Boro have already promised to help Bates make a full recovery from the injury suffered against Ipswich Town in March. He is though out-of-contract at the end of the month and it appears a short-term deal is still the most likely outcome.
