Gibson pays tribute
Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson has paid tribute following the death of predecessor Colin Henderson at the age of 76.
Henderson steered Boro through the dark period of their liquidation crisis in 1986 and took the club to succcessive promotions until resigning following a disagreement amongst the board seven years later. He continued to live in Egglescliffe but no longer attened Boro games.
"During that period in the mid-80s, Middlesbrough Football Club would not have survived without Colin Henderson," Gibson told Boro's official website. "It's a sad day for all at Middlesbrough Football Club.
"When the club and the town needed a giant, Colin was the man," he added. "I liked him and respected him immensely. He was a very intelligent man and he worked tirelessly to find solutions to problems. He was a strong man, physically and mentally."
