Boro could meet former striker
Former striker Mido could come up against Middlesbrough on the opening day of the new season.
The Egyptian forward was expected to complete a move to Barnsley over the next twenty-four hours.
Boro travel to Oakwell to open their campaign on 18th August before hosting Burnley three days later.
"I'd have to say that I'd always prefer an away game to start with," manager Tony Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. "Teams are so well prepared and so full of adrenaline that form tends to go out of the window and you get a lot of strange results.
"Barnsley won't be easy, of course, and it looks like Mido might sign for them," he added. "I know from his time here that he is a powerful, talented boy who knows where the back of the net is."
