Emnes not for sale at Boro

Middlesbrough have told Swansea City that Dutch striker Marvin Emnes is not for sale, although the Welsh club are denying making a renewed bid.

That follows recent speculation over the Swans lodging a £3m offer shortly after the arrival of Michael Laudrup as successor to new Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers. However, it would appear Boro actually turned down a similar move at the end of last season.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins was keen to deny claims of the latest approach but admitted to the earlier enquiry while the team were still under the management of Rodgers.

"We have certainly not made an enquiry since [Michael Laudrup took over]," Jenkins told BBC Sport. "We made an enquiry with Middlesbrough six weeks ago regarding Marvin's availability. We needed to test the water.

"Having just appointed a new manager, all current and new options are being assessed," he added. "Michael, with the help of the recruitment staff, will decide over the next few weeks the direction we take regarding potential new signings."
