No leading Boro sales

Manager Tony Mowbray is maintaining there is no pressure to sell his leading players at Middlesbrough.

Striker Marvin Emnes was the rumoured subject of renewed interest from Swansea City this week after having an earlier bid rejected only last month. However, Swans chairman Huw Jenkins was quick to deny a second approach.

Boro have already indicated a requirement to reduce wage levels at the Riverside, although that won't be allowed to compromise the overall quality of their side.

"Why would we want to sell a player like Marvin?" Mowbray asked the Evening Gazette. "We're in a position now where we don't have to sell players to balance the books.

"I'm trying to build a team that will take us into the Premier League and Marvin is key to what we are trying to do," he added. "He signed a new contract last summer and was our top scorer last season."
