Tykes battle to keep Boro target
Barnsley are making a sustained effort to prevent midfielder Jacob Butterfield from moving to Middlesbrough.
The 22-year-old is currently on the radar of Boro boss Tony Mowbray, who is still looking to add to his squad after narrowly missing out on the play-offs last season.
However, Tykes chief Keith Hill was hoping to persuade Butterfield to sign a new deal at Oakwell after sitting out the second half of last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
Butterfield is rated at around £3m but eligible to leave under freedom of contract, although Barnsley would be allowed compensation due to his age.
