WOODGATE RE-SIGNS FOR BORO

Middlesbrough have re-signed former centre-back and England international Jonathan Woodgate on a three-year contract.

The 32-year-old arrives on a free transfer from Stoke City and returns to the Riverside more than four years after leaving for Tottenham Hotspur in an 8m deal.

He originally joined Boro from Spanish giants Real Madrid six years ago following earlier spells with Newcastle United and Leeds United.

Woodgate has also won eight England caps in his time, with the last coming in a 2-2 draw against the Czech Republic in 2008, and says the lure of a Boro return was simply too great to resist.

"It's fair to say that I would not have dropped down to the Championship for any other club," Woodgate stressed to the Northern Echo. "I had a think about things and then arranged a meeting with Tony Mowbray. He was captain of the Boro team I first went to see as a six-year-old at Ayresome Park and he has the club in his blood.

"I was really impressed with what he had to say and his plans for the future," he added. "Middlesbrough are my hometown club and I also have family here, so I have massive affection for the them."

Like Ledley King, if has always been a huge shame that neither have been able to have a career without so many serious injury problems. lets hope for his and your sake that he can have a decent end to his career, which without those injuries, we would have been talking about one of the greatest CBs in the world
