'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Boro plan further arrivals

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray is keen for more signings to add to the four already brought to the Riverside since the end of last season.

Jonathan Woodgate, Grant Leadbitter, Stuart Parnaby and Emmanuel Ledesma have already arrived to boost a squad narrowly missing out on the play-offs last term.

Mowbray is also keen on Bristol Rovers winger Mustapha Carayol and former Burnley defender Andre Amougou, while similarly looking to add experienced one-time Portsmouth goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown to his ranks.

"I think we are quite close, reasonably close. We are talking to clubs, we are just about there with one or two. Agents are throwing names at you every day," Mowbray told the Northern Echo. "It's quite scary the amount of big names that have not got football clubs. Expectations, financially, are starting to come down as we get closer to kick-off."
