Potential excites Woodgate

Homecoming defender Jonathan Woodgate says there is absolutely massive potential at Middlesbrough.

The 32-year-old centre-back made his comeback in the weekend friendly at York City more than four years since departing the club for Tottenham Hotspur.

Last season he managed 21 appearances for Premier League Stoke City, until rejoining Boro at the beginning last month. He has also seen service with Leeds United, Newcastle United and Real Madrid and has eight senior international caps England to his credit.

"I want to try and get the club up the league. There`s no point playing if you don`t want to win," Woodgate told the Evening Gazette. "The potential is massive here. The players need to realise they`ve got a lot of potential and hopefully they can take it onto the next level."
