'If It's Football, It's Vital'

We're ready says Mowbray

Manager Tony Mowbray believes his Middlesbrough side are ready for their return to serious competitive action.

That is despite their 3-2 defeat to Scunthorpe United last night as the hosts came from two-goals down to eventually prevail at Glanford Park.

Boro have completed a rather dramatic reconstruction of their squad over the summer with ten departures and eight newcomers following them narrowly missing out on the play-offs last season.

"We are getting there. Let's see how it goes," Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. "There's been a lot of changes over the summer and we have brought some new players to the club who we think can make a difference.

"They offer some different options and give us an opportunity to maybe play a different way," he added. 'Yes, some have come from League One or League Two but if they perform well then they can become part of the team."

The Teessiders travel to Bury in the first round of the renamed Capital One Cup this weekend.
