Defender stepping in right direction
New signing George Friend says moving to Middlesbrough has been a real step-up in his career.
The 24-year-old departed relegated Doncaster Rovers at the end of last season in favour of continuing his progress at the Riverside.
"The style of play is different, but it's better," Friend told BBC Tees. "We've got some really good players here, who can help my game and I'm enjoying it. It's a positive change.
"I knew Middlesbrough was a big club with big expectations, that was what I wanted to be part of," he added. "That's why I joined."
The Devon-born defender already has Premier League experience with Wolverhampton Wanderers and a number of loan spells in the Championship since beginning his career as a trainee at Exeter City.
