Boro must check on trio

Boosted by successive league wins, Middlesbrough make the long trip to Gillingham in the Capital One Cup second round on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm).

Boro booked a visit to Kent with a 2-1 win at Bury in the opening round while their latest opponents were shocking Championship side Bristol City in front of their own supporters.

The Gills have actually had an excellent start to their campaign with four straight victories - three of them away from home.

Boro manager Tony Mowbray must carry out checks on Marvin Emnes (foot), Joe Bennett (knee), and Mustapha Carayol (hamstring) ahead of the tie.

Meanwhile, ex-England centre-back Jonathan Woodgate (groin), plus midfield duo Nicky Bailey (hamstring) and Kevin Thomson (calf), have recently joined Lukas Jutkiewicz (knee) on the sidelines, although the former Coventry City striker is back in training and may return for the weekend visit to Millwall.

Gillingham have Tom Flanagan back available having served a suspension but Adam Barrett is struggling with a sore ankle.
