Boro fears over skipper
Middlesbrough were preparing themselves for the worst regarding the fitness of skipper Rhys Williams.
The Australian international picked up what appeared a nasty ankle injury during the 2-0 Capital One Cup second round victory at Gillingham last evening.
The highly-rated Williams, 24, suffered the blow late in the second-half and needed extensive treatment on the touchline before eventually leaving the Priestfield Stadium on crutches.
"It looks like it might be a bad one," manager Tony Mowbray confirmed to the Evening Gazette. "He might have damaged ankle ligaments but until we have the scans and do the tests we won't know for sure how bad it is or how long he will be out. He's in some discomfort now but we have to see what the scans show"
