Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray believes he has built a squad over the summer who are certainly capable of winning promotion.
A busy few months have witnessed Mustapha Carayol, George Friend, Grant Leadbitter, Emanuel Ledesma, Jayson Leutwiler, Stuart Parnaby, Jonathan Woodgate and youngster Christian Burgess all coming into the Riverside.
Those were closely followed by a couple of loanees in Josh McEachran (Chelsea) and Ishmael Miller (Nottingham Forest).
"Results will decide whether we've built a squad that's capable of competing," Mowbray told the Sunday Sun. "What I would say is that we haven't spent a lot of money doing it. George Friend was £100,000, Carayol £300,000. It's not as if we've spent millions on the team, to build a team to get out of this league.
"We've brought some players from lower leagues, Ledesma was a free transfer," he added. "It's been a mixture really, some very young players from lower leagues like Carayol and Ledesma, but also some experience in the likes of Woodgate and Leadbitter."
Boro's start in the league has so far been rather mixed with a couple of wins and losses in their first four games, although two away victories has helped them through to the third round of the Capital One Cup.
