Mowbray not discounting forgotten striker

Tony Mowbray has indicated that Scott McDonald could still get his chance at Middlesbrough this season.

That is despite the Australian international and scorer of 27 goals in 82 starts for the Teessiders never yet being a regular under his leadership.

Mowbray had hoped to move the 29-year-old on during the transfer window while the player rejected a prospective move to Asia.

"I have to say, with total respect to Scott McDonald, that he's been here two years and he hasn't scored a bagful of goals," Mowbray told SkySports. "But it's a question I understand people asking because he cost a lot of money.

"Yet if we had a 30-goal a season man sat in the stands or sitting at home I could understand the question a bit more maybe," he added. "But with respect to Scott McDonald, he's just another name on my team sheet or not on my team sheet. Scott just needs to get his head down and keep working hard and see what happens."
