No guarantees says defender
Recent arrival George Friend is determined to keep his starting place in the Middlesbrough side.
The 24-year-old has certainly impressed since arriving from Doncaster Rovers over the summer. But he doesn't believe the departure last week of rival left-back Joe Bennett to Aston Villa makes him an automatic choice.
"I thought I was playing well before when Joe was out but I knew I had to do that to stay in the team," Friend told the Evening Gazette. "At a club like Boro you have to play well in every game as there are always good players right behind you who want your shirt.
"There is a lot of quality in the squad here and even with Joe gone I know there are people who can challenge me for my place so I`ve got to give my all every week," he added.
