Boro keeper learns from 'pass-master'
Goalkeeper Jason Steele was happily claiming an assist in the weekend triumph against Ipswich Town.
The 22-year-old supplied the pass for substitute Mustapha Carayol to finally settle the contest deep into added time at the Riverside. And the Newton Aycliffe stopper admitted he was only copying a technique used by his own favourite amongst goalkeepers.
"It was great to have a hand in the goal with that long-range pass because it`s a technique I've been working on since I was a kid," Steele told the Northern Echo. "I have been watching the top-quality keepers since then and a lot of them kick the ball like that. My favourite goalie has always been Pepe Reina.
"I suppose I have just been copying him and I try to use it to the team's advantage," he added. "This time it paid off. Reina is the best of both worlds - a mixture of the continental and the British and that is the way the game is going at the minute."
