Defender relishes hectic schedule

Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate is enjoying the highs and lows of the Championship following a busy week for the club.

Boro followed up their disappointing 4-1 defeat at Blackpool in midweek by going to unbeaten leaders Blackburn Rovers and emerging with a superb 2-1 victory just three days later.

That game was former England international Woodgate's third in just six days and left the 32-year-old with a slight tightening in his hamstring. As a result Woodgate is set to sit out tomorrow's League Cup tie at Preston North End in readiness for the forthcoming Championship meeting with Leicester City.

"I can't remember the last time I will have had a run like that - probably when I was at Spurs and we might have had three games in seven," Woodgate told the Northern Echo. "I don't want to miss games. That's what I have told the manager and I'm enjoying it - even if it means playing as many as that."
