Mowbray backed by former boss
Former Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate believes current boss Tony Mowbray is the right man to lead the club back to the top.
Boro are in their fourth Championship season at present since suffering relegation under Southgate at the end of the 2008-09 campaign.
But Mowbray has experienced a rather indifferent start with his side this year after narrowly missing out on the play-offs last time around.
However, Southgate was still tipping his former club as having a real chance of eventually finishing in the play-offs.
"Tony, I thought, was the only appointment they could make," Southgate told the Northern Echo. "Supporters will be right behind him and the way he likes the team to play is good.
"It's such a tight league this year, you look at the table and at the moment there doesn't seem to be one outstanding team so it's very much in the mix," he continued. "I wouldn't see Boro as one of the favourites to go up, but there's no reason why they can't make the play-offs."
