Balancing act at Boro
Middlesbrough chief Tony Mowbray says the departure of defender Stephen McManus to Bristol City won't necessarily allow further team strengthening at the Riverside.
The 30-year-old Scottish international centre-back rejoined the Robins on a three-month loan deal yesterday following a similar spell at Ashton Gate last season.
And as one of their larger wage-earners, that move will now assist Boro in trying to balance their books rather than concentrate on adding to their ranks.
"We're still going through a process of trying to balance the books," Mowbray told the Northern Echo. "If there was a real emergency, the chairman would look at it. But we're not in an emergency at the moment.
"The deal financially helps our club a fair bit, and it will help so it's been allowed to happen," he added.
