Striker virtually irreplaceable - Mowbray

Dutch striker Marvin Emnes is virtually irreplaceable at Middlesbrough according to manager Tony Mowbray.

Emnes helped his side to a fourth straight away win at Brighton courtesy of his 21st minute winner at the Amex Stadium at the weekend. That was sufficient to move Boro back up the table and into seventh place - which was exactly where they finished last season.

The 22-year-old marksman was heavily linked with a move away from the Riverside during the most recent transfer window, although any subsequent approaches were rebuffed.

"When there's talks of a £5.5m, £6m sale of Emnes, as I said at the time 'who's going to score the goals for us, who's going to replace him?' We have to have a team on the pitch," Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. "At this moment Marvin Emnes is doing the job, working hard, scoring goals, getting hold of the ball, running in behind. He's doing the job he has to do."
