Boro defender issues warning
Middlesbrough defender George Friend has warned his colleagues over the dangers of coming up against a club with a newly-installed manager.
Bolton Wanderers arrive at the Riverside this weekend with ex-Boro full-back Jimmy Phillips in caretaker charge but new boss Dougie Freedman doubtless watching intently from the sidelines.
"Often when a new manger comes in the players improve their game a bit on the day because they want to prove something to the new boss and put down a marker in front of him," Friend told the Evening Gazette. "On the other hand, a new manager can also sometimes mean a side playing a new style and a new shape and that can take a while to get used to.
"We won't worry too much about how it affects them, we will just do what we normally do and and play our own game and try to get at them," he added.
Bolton recently axed manager Owen Coyle after a sequence of just one win in eight games following their relegation last season.
