Promotion is still the focus

Striker Scott McDonald says Middlesbrough's focus still remains fixed on promotion despite their success in the Capital One Cup.

Boro next face a quarter-final tie at Swansea City after four successive away victories in the competition so far.

The Teessiders have already accounted for Bury, Gillingham, Preston North End and now Sunderland on their travels whilst their next opponents knocked out current holders Liverpool following a 3-1 victory at Anfield last night.

"From a fans point of view it's great, but I think I'll get a bit more excited if we get past the next round," McDonald told the Northern Echo. "I'm just focusing on getting the club promoted. That's what I came here to do and I really want that to happen.

"It's great to be in the last eight," he admitted. "It's great for the club and it just means an extra games for us, but obviously our main objective is to push for promotion."
