'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mowbray hails key midfielder

Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray has hailed the impact of midfielder Grant Leadbitter at the Riverside.

The former Sunderland and Ipswich Town schemer has become an increasingly influential performer through a series of strong displays since arriving on a free transfer during the summer.

"Leadbitter is a great lad," Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. "He is a hard-working and honest professional footballer who sets himself and the team high standards.

"I'm delighted he plays for us. I think he is one of those boys who gives you his maximum every week," he added. "He has a high level of consistency in his quality play and let's hope we can keep him fit and keep him going."
