Defender set to return

Scottish international centre-back Stephen McManus appears set to return to Middlesbrough later this month.

The 30-year-old's current loan spell with Bristol City has less than a fortnight to run and as yet there has been no permanent offer made for his services from Robins boss Derek McInness.

McManus is also out of contract at the Riverside in the summer and is naturally keen to sort out his own future with no real prospect of an extension for him on Teesside.

"At this moment in time, if Stephen's due back on the 17th, he'll be back on the 17th," Boro manager Tony Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. "Bristol will have to make contact if they want something to happen. We're not chasing them, so let's wait and see."
