Boro consider former England ace

Middlesbrough are set to hand an opportunity to former England international winger Kieron Dyer.

The 34-year-old was recently released by Queens Park Rangers after struggling for fitness and is likely to arrive at the Riverside on a pay-as-you-play basis.

Manager Tony Mowbray already knows the player well from his time at Ipswich Town. Dyer has also represented both Newcastle United and West Ham United during his career.

"There's nothing agreed or signed," Mowbray told the Northern Echo. "I've had some conversations with him and his advisers and yet we're fully aware of the injury problems he's suffered over the last few years.

"I would have to say a fit Kieron Dyer, like Jonathan Woodgate, is a top, top quality footballer who has played for some top sides in the Premier League all his career," he continued. "If a few fine details are sorted out, I can see no reason why we wouldn't sign Kieron."
