No extra funds for Boro

No extra funds for Boro

The recent departure of midfielder Kevin Thomson from Middlesbrough doesn't necessarily mean there will be an immediate move into the transfer market.

Thomson was reputed to be one of the highest earners at the Riverside but left the club by mutual agreement last week with still eighteen months remaining on his current deal.

That follows a disappointing two-and-a-half-year spell in which the former Rangers midfielder found himself too often struggling with a series of injuries.

"There's no real help at the moment with the money we save from Thomson," manager Tony Mowbray told the Northern Echo. "That's the way football is.

"Clubs are run, budgets roll, so you know where you are and how much there is to spend year by year," he continued. "As a club we would have liked to have got the best out of Kevin Thomson. Both parties have probably made the right decision."
