Winger to keep on running

Recent Middlesbrough signing Kieron Dyer is determined to continue playing for as long as possible as he approaches the end of an injury-plagued career.

The 34-year-old former England international recently joined Boro on a pay-as-you-play basis after his release from Queens Park Rangers. He immediately made his Teessiders' debut against another of his former clubs, Ipswich Town, last weekend.

"When I was getting constant hamstring problems, it did cross my mind to retire because it seemed like there was no end to it," Dyer explained to the Northern Echo. "But I never once wanted to quit when I broke my leg or had my bad foot injury because they're freak injuries.

'What's got me down is continually having muscle injuries," he added. "But I seem to have found a programme that is working for me."

Dyer previously totalled 33 caps for his country and also spent time with West Ham United after more than 250 senior appearances for Newcastle United.
