New signing ready to lift Boro

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray believes latest signing Sammy Ameobi can help reinvigorate their faltering promotion challenge.

The 20-year-old has arrived on loan from Newcastle United until the end of the season as Boro seek to seek to climb back into the play-offs following a run of just one league win in nine, including seven defeats.

Ameobi is though cup-tied and so wont be available to face Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round tomorrow evening.

"Sammy gives us a different option and more options in a similar way to Muzzy Carayol," Mowbray told the Northern Echo. "He's an out and out attacking wide player, who can operate on either side and will be ideal when we want to play with two wingers.

"In my mind Carayol is the only, what I would class, out and out winger we have at the club," he added. "He will hopefully give some players a lift and create competition."
