Defender return unlikely

Defender return unlikely

It appears unlikely that defender George Friend will be recalled for Middlesbrough's season finale at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The former Doncaster Rovers full-back hasn't featured since damaging his hamstring against Peterborough United at the beginning of last month.

He was due to be available this weekend but with the game having little importance for the visitors, the chances of a comeback seem remote, particularly as the 25-year-old hasn't yet resumed full training.

One man set to be in contention at Hillsborough though is centre-back Jonathan Woodgate after missing the latest 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic due to a one-match ban.
