Youngsters will benefit

Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray believes three of his younger players will benefit from his decision to include them in the final day defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Mowbray awarded a senior debut to defender Christian Burgess while Ben Gibson and Bryn Morris also made rare first-team starts as the visitors eventually went down 2-0 at Hillsborough.

"It gave them the experience of a 30,000 crowd and the expectation that carries," Mowbray explained to BBC Tees. "I wouldn't be critical of them, I thought they did well.

"It'll be a benefit to them," he promised. "When young players play in big atmospheres it gives them the understanding of what it takes to be a professional footballer."
