Boro monitor defender

Middlesbrough are amongst a number of clubs monitoring the progress of Australian defender Michael Thwaite.

The 6'3" centre-back has continued to impress for both his club Perth Glory and his country, which has in turned alerted the attention of a number of English sides.

As well as the Teessiders, Leicester City, Blackpool and Premier League newcomers Crystal Palace have taken a keen watching brief on a player who should see further international action against Japan, Jordan and Iraq next month.

Thwaite already has previous experience of playing in Europe following earlier spells with Wisla Krakow and SK Brann and is understood to be keen on a move to England.
