Door opens for Boro

Middlesbrough are set to be able to pursue interest in a couple of potential targets when Croatia joins the European Union next month.

Neither individual has yet been named but they are understood to be very promising young players who have already represented Croatia at youth and under-21 levels.

Boro already have close affiliations with a number contacts in Croatia, including their former striker Alen Boksic, ahead of it becoming a member of the EU at the beginning of next month.

Boksic is the current assistant manager of the Croatian national team and with strong links to another of his former clubs, Hajduk Split.
