Boro set for first signing

Middlesbrough are set to begin their summer recruitment by signing Hungarian international Jozsef Varga.

The Debrecen midfielder should complete a season-long loan move early next week after undergoing a medical on Sunday.

Varga was also a target for Watford after a loan spell at German club Greuther Furth last season. His arrival would probably rule out any move by manager Tony Mowbray for former Stoke City midfielder Dean Whitehead.

Meanwhile, Boro's ex-Charlton Athletic schemer Nicky Bailey could make a return to the capital following talks with Millwall.
