Mowbray targets the front

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray is turning his attentions towards strengthening his forward line.

Boro have so far recruited Hungarian international Jozsef Varga and should soon add to that with former Sunderland midfielder Dean Whitehead following his release from Stoke City.

However, Mowbray still requires a reliable twenty-goals-a-season marksman and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Sylvain Ebanks-Blake is one name already considered, although the Boro chief concedes nothing may happen until later in the transfer window.

"We're looking at strikers we feel can score a lot of goals for us," Mowbray told the Northern Echo. "You have players in mind but sometimes their expectations are too high in May and June, then in July and August that might change because they want to find a club and get training as quickly as possible.

"We are looking at that area of the pitch as well. We didn't have anybody run away and score 20-30 goals for us," he continued. "Scott got 13, Juke got ten, Marvin didn't hit the same heights as he did the year before, so we'll be looking for someone who can reach that sort of tally."
