Mowbray explains departures
Tony Mowbray has spoken about his decision to release both Nicky Bailey and Andre Bikey from Middlesbrough.
Boro decided against taking up a twelve-month extension on ex-Burnley defender Bikey while also not offering former Charlton Athletic midfielder Bailey fresh terms.
"We left the Andre situation to the end of the season but we didn't pick up his option," Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. "It was a difficult decision because at his best Andre Bikey was more than good enough to play in our team and help us win matches and help us get to the top of the table.
"I think it was a frustrating season for Nicky last year," he continued. "He didn't really tie a position down. I think Josh McEachran came in from Chelsea and played centre-midfield and for 25-odd games last season developed a really good relationship with Grant Leadbitter and allowed us generally to dominate matches and win games."
Bailey, 29, has since been linked with Millwall, Southend United and a possible return to Charlton.
