Defender could exit on loan

Middlesbrough could allow young defender Christian Burgess to go out on loan.

The 21-year-old centre-back is currently away in Portugal after being a late addition to the Boro squad.

He previously made his senior debut in the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on the final day of last season. However, he remains some way down the pecking order at the Riverside.

"I'm taking things day by day at the moment," Burgess told the Evening Gazette. "I'm going to keep working hard and try to force my way into the gaffer's plans or if not probably look elsewhere for first team experience, a loan move. I'd like to get some league football and go on from there."
