Boro remain keen on midfielder

Boro remain keen on midfielder

Middlesbrough are still watching the situation regarding Aston Villa's out-of-favour midfielder Stephen Ireland.

Manager Tony Mowbray is reported as having first refusal on the 26-year-old if the Midlands' club should allow him to join a Championship club on loan.

Former Manchester City schemer Ireland hasn't played for the Villa first-team since January and instead found himself training with the club's development squad.

Meanwhile, Boro have also been linked with former Leeds United defender Frazer Richardson, who has been released by Southampton.
