Ben's big ambition

Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson wants to keep his England Under-21 place after helping them to a third-place play-off in the Toulon Tournament.

Centre-back Gibson was in their starting line-up for yesterday's final group game against Colombia in the Stade Leo Lagrange, France.

England opened the scoring through Fulham's Cauley Woodrow but Joao Rodriguez proceeded to level; meaning a second place finish behind Brazil in Group B. As a result, the English next take on Portugal in a third/fourth place decider in Avignon tomorrow afternoon (4.00pm).

However, the 21-year-old defender was already hoping to fully establish himself at club level next season and assist in steering Boro towards a sustained promotion challenge in the Championship.

"I want to start next season as the number one centre-half and play a full season there and hopefully achieve promotion with Boro," Gibson told TheFA.com. "That's what we're looking to do and there's a long season ahead of us.

"But if I can start well and we can carry on in the fashion that we ended last season, there's no reason why we can't do that," he added. "We've got a good manager and good players so I'm hopeful that we can do that."
