Former boss tips challenge

Former boss tips challenge

Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka is taking the club in the right direction according to former manager Steve McClaren.

McClaren is currently in charge of Championship rivals Derby County but fully expects the Teessiders to mount a sustained promotion challenge this season.

"He is certainly changing the face of Middlesbrough," McClaren told BBC Tees. "He brought stability, a new way of working, a new way of thinking and I feel everybody has brought into that, which is the most important thing.

"They are developing and making some very good signings," McClaren added. "They will be pushing definitely for a top-six place this season."
