Boro facing stiff competition

Middlesbrough must fight-off plenty of competition if they are to sign Reading full-back Chris Gunter.

The Welsh international has a £1m release clause in his contract, according to the Evening Gazette, which could trigger his departure from the Madejski Stadium.

Premier League outfit Swansea City are amongst those clubs currently interested in the Newport-born 27-year-old, in addition to Championship rivals Aston Villa and Leeds United.

Gunter was a permanent fixture for Reading last season and also appeared a handful of times for Wales in their outstanding Euro 2016 run in France.
