Boss happy with reaction

Manager Garry Monk got the response he wanted following the 2-0 defeat of Birmingham City at the Riverside.

Britt Assombalonga scored twice before the break as the hosts recovered from their weekend disappointment at Monk's former club Leeds United.

"Overall, it was the response we were looking for," he told BBC Sport. "There was lots of good play in our game, and there were lots of good chances as well.

"I thought it was a comfortable win really," Monk added. "We had an excellent first half with some really good play, and should probably have come even a few more goals ahead."

Boro's fourth win in five games moved them back up to sixth in the table.
